Tax Compliance Officer

Job Description

Established Firm of Auditors and Accountants holds a vacancy for a Tax Compliance Officer.

Jnr and Senior positions available

Qualification: Senior applicants should hold a completed Tertiary Qualification/SAIT Registered. 

  • Assisting and maintaining a tax portfolio in accordance with the various Taxation Acts consisting of Close Corporations, Companies, Individuals and Trusts
  • Accurate and timeous data capturing and record keeping on ProfSoft for accurate data on database and for reporting purposes
  • Ensuring that e-filing is maintained
  • Timeous and accurate Take-on and Take-off process, including proper engagement letters with clients 
  • Provisional Tax:
  • Income Tax:
  • Keeping up to date with all tax matters and legislation changes, SARS practices, by attending workshops, SARS sessions, webinars, keeping abreast with SAIT and other tax newsletters, as well as amendment acts and explanatory memorandums.
  • Information sessions and/or training to rest of staff regarding changes to legislation/SARS practices
  • Objections and appeals including:
  • Preparation and submission of ADR objections to SARS
  • Preparation and submission of appeals and corrections on SARS e-Filing
  • All objections and appeals drafted are based on the Income Tax Act No.58 of 1962 and Tax Administration Act

 

Responsibilities

General list of duties and responsibilities as follow:

Calculating Capital Gains Tax (CGT)

  • Calculations pertaining to CGT events
  • Assist with clients and gathering information

Tax Calculations

  • Sole proprietors/ clients receiving business and/or rental income: dealing with clients and gathering information to ensure timeous finalisation and submission of tax return
  • Performing tax calculations: Income and expenses from an income tax perspective
  • Calculation of provisional tax estimates
  • Applying section 1, section 11 and section 23 of the Income Tax Act and also other special provisions depending on the nature of business

Tax planning

  • Assist with salary structuring advice regarding travel allowances and fringe benefits, etc.
  • Assist with consulting with clients on how to effectively maximise deductions allowed by SARS according to their individual circumstance with regard to Retirement Annuities, Pension Fund contribution, Medical Aid, Donations etc.
  • Preparation and submission of TCC001, FIA001 and FIA002 on behalf of clients
  • Preparation and submission of Tax Directives on behalf of clients
  • Consulting with client’s regarding their tax status at SARS and ensuring that their tax status are within compliance of the Income Tax Act and Tax Administration Act and that the status remains compliance.
  • Checking tax liability at SARS and ensuring that it is correct
  • Ensuring that outstanding payments are received by SARS and correctly allocated
  • Ensuring that all refunds are received by clients (check long outstanding refunds)

Tax opinions

  • Assist with research in respect of tax opinion required by client or audit or accounting department
  • Draft tax opinions and discuss with partner
Required Skills

Qualification: Senior applicants should hold a completed Tertiary Qualification/SAIT Registered.
